It All Begins with You

Updated: Nov 17, 2019

Your studio is a direct reflection of your heart. Everything that you have created within your dance studio space, from the name to the people, is a physical manifestation of your dreams and desires. You created all of I right?

Take a moment to sit back and revel in just how far you have come. You are a brilliant and courageous human who has a deep desire to share the gift of dance with others. You care about people so deeply that you have created a space for communities to build, for artists to develop, and hearts to bloom.

You are the mastermind behind it all. You are the captain of this ship, the choreographer of this dream, the producer of this entire production.

It all started with YOU.

And it will all evolve, because of you.

Isn't it nice to know that YOU hold the power to create whatever it is that you want to experience, not only in your life but in your dance studio?

What you believe and what you expect is what will show up for you in your life. Every single thought that you have, whether conscious or subconscious, will create your reality.

"Everything is Energy, and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics."- Albert Einstein

To make a significant change in your life, you must take a moment to really think about what it is that you believe is possible. Do you think that you can own a successful dance studio that offers you time and opportunities that will allow you to live the life of your dreams? Do you believe that you can make money?

Do you even know what the life of your dreams looks like inside and outside the dance studio walls?

More than likely you have entered this profession with a deep desire to positively impact the lives of others. You want to make a difference in the world, and you know the power that dance holds to change lives, to change hearts.

The passion runs so deep within the body that the studio begins to take charge of what is innately yours. Your life.

While you LOVE the studio, your students and the magic that comes along with being in the dance room, there still may be a desire for something more. And it is ok to hold a secret desire to experience life without dance.

Oh my gosh, what would Happy Hour with friends feel like? What is a Saturday without rehearsals?)

If inner work is not consistently being done, the dance studio will begin to override your most profound dreams and desires, holding you back from being the CEO of your dance studio and YOUR life.

"Don't be satisfied with the stories of how things have gone for others. Unfold your own Myth."- Rumi

Many Dance Studio Owners have modeled their studio based off of what has already been created. The structure, systems, handbooks, season, and even the language echoed from studio owner to studio owner is very much the same. The culture of the dance studio world is so deeply embedded into the psyche, it is almost impossible to imagine a different way.

But, in a world full of infinite possibilities, don't you think there could be a different way? Don't you think you could have more personal time, make money AND run a wildly successful dance studio?

It all starts with you and what you believe.

Dance Studio Owners often do not give themselves enough credit. The constant demands of the studio keep you managing the "to-do" list rather than managing your dreams and desires. Dance Studio Owners (and many dancers for that matter) have a deep desire to please. This need to please doesn't create a lot of time to know what it feels like to satisfy your own needs and desires. You may find yourself in the mode of overworking to validate your worth to others. You may also find yourself in what I call the Dance Studio Martyr Syndrome, which is the tendency to sacrifice your time, money and resources for the sake of your students. It is depleting, but it proves to others and yourself that you will give anything to your dancers, proving your love and dedication to your work at the sacrifice of your self.

The studio itself requires you to be courageously vulnerable, which is why any criticism, complaint or student that quits, feels So. Damn. Personal.

You may hold a desire for things to be different, for people to see your worth and to be acknowledged for just how deeply you love. You may also desire to feel that same love in return. There are so many layers to the emotional patterns that Dance Studio Owners (and teachers) have adapted out of protection. When you put your heart on the line, your mind gets geared up to protect you, your reputation, and your heart. All of this prohibits the studio owner from slowing down enough to truly align with the intention and purpose of the work.

Things do not change because there is not any time to put towards building the dream, breaking the old patterns, and manifesting a different reality. It is the same experience and problems year after year.

Anyone who has ever flown has heard these words:" Should a drop in cabin pressure occur, put your own mask on first." Yes, to serve others the way that you have always intended, you must take care of yourself first.

You are a beautiful work in progress, and SO IS YOUR BUSINESS.

You should never be feeling like every season is a "rinse and repeat."

It all starts with YOU.

So how does one begin to make the shift into something different?

First, you must take a moment to DREAM...and I meant really DREAM.

Ask yourself these questions.

What do you want in your life?

What really satisfies your SOUL?

When do you feel the most inspired?

How often do you want to work during the week?

How many hours do you want to sit at the competitions?

How much time do you need for YOURSELF?

Do you have any self-care practices?

What do you do to replenish your own energy and creativity?

What do you like to do outside of the dance studio?

What do you want more of in your life?

And the more you take time to nourish your heart, dreams, desires, and passions, YOU will begin to dance that into every aspect of your business. YOU will begin to shift into who you have always been...but now your HEART is ready to take flight and your arms are open to receive. YOU are ready to Live the LIFE of your DREAMS.

*Create your Vision Board. *

What you will need:

Poster Board, notebook, journal or corkboard

Colored pens, markers or pencils

This is your time to be as creative as you want with your dreams. The only rule is...Do Not Edit Yourself. Do not go practical or dance into the "that would never happen," so I won't even hold it as a dream phase. The whole point is to expand your scope of possibilities and genuinely allow your deepest wishes to have a voice.

As you cut out any inspiring words or images from the magazines, allow yourself to expand upon the dream. Tap into how it makes you feel.

Would the opportunity to travel the world really light you up inside? Then create it on your vision board. How about owning a state of the art dance studio that is full of happy and amazing people. Put it on your vision board.

You can create as many of these as you wish in all aspects of your life. What do you want more of in your personal life? More time to date, or time with family? Do you desire more time outside of dance with your friends? Maybe you want to travel to an exotic location or drive your dream car. Perhaps you just want more time to do yoga, cook, or garden.

What do you want your finances to look like? What about your health and wellness?

What do you want to experience and accomplish?

Once you start gluing your words or images on your board, write in more detail what the dream means to you. Allow yourself to FEEL it as if it has already happened.

Have Fun!

I would love to see your DREAM BOARDS! Please send me a picture or post it on Instagram and tag me in it. I have attached my Vision Board that you can use as an example.

Much LOVE!,
